It's Thursday : Weekly App Review 03, Ducktales : Scrooge's Loot

This week, we are going to review a freenium game : Ducktales : Scrooge's Loot

Let's open with the official trailer.

At first, the game sure plays the nostalgia card. The name itself made me download the game and the opening starts with the famous Ducktales theme song. You really can't miss it.

The Beginning : It starts
Everything starts because Scrooge got his gold stolen, so he is asking McQuack to fetch what is his. Just like that, you are going to be recruited by McQuack as a fellow "soldier" and be thrown in an arena with others players.
Yes, others players, Scrooge's Loot is a multiplayer shooter. You will be taught the basics via a nice tutorial. You will be invited to create your character. The game has fairly simple basics so the tutorial won't be long, just like 3 minutes or so.

The heart of the game : The Good
In the arena, you are going to end up with one of the 2 teams and the overall goal will be to fetch more gold than the others teams. You can do that in two ways. First, just go where the gold is and bring in back to your camp or shoot at opponents who are carrying gold and take it from them.

There is no ultimate strategy and sometimes, depending on the maps and your play style, you will have to adapt.
Be aware that the more you carry gold, the heavier you are and the slower you get making you an easier target to shoot at.
After every battle, you will gain coins and experience to be able to buy new equipments and upgrades, so you can carry more gold or shoot faster, etc... This is actually very addictive.

But all of this would have been bad if the gameplay was average and so far, the shooters are not so good. Ducktales finds somewhat to turn the tides around with a friendly auto-aiming feature which fits perfectly touch gaming.

No Ducktales or Scrooge whatsoever : The Bad
After the quick intro, the entire universe or storyline attached to Scrooge is gone except for the fact that you are controlling a non named Duck character.

The game looks like a lot Team Fortress, Ducktales is just a skin on top of that. While the game remains quite good, we sure would be pleased to have seen a little bit more of the Ducktales universe, after all, this is the main reason why we downloaded the game.

The other downside is the social aspect. While the game has good basic principles, the execution is quite poor. It is just so painful to play with your friends in a game. Maybe be, in the near future, it will be much better but right now, I'm just playing alone.

In App Payment : The Ugly
Well, to tell you the truth, at first, the game seems well balanced. But if you play a bit like me (~ at least 5 hours or so), the rewards won't be enough and you are going to need to hard grind, but not as much as you can because you can only play a few games before waiting for the timer to reset.
Oh and there are 2 currencies but focus only on coins since it is the main one and coins buy you upgrades while gems are much less useful like resurrecting without waiting a few seconds when you are in a game.

You need to divide the prices of IAP by 100 because for games' purposes only, it indicates $150 while you only pay $1.50. Here are the prices :

Verdict : 6.5/10. Quite good but the IAP feel such a drawback at some point.
