- Weight : 158 g (5.73 oz)
- Aluminum Body
- 2000 mAh Battery
- OTG

Main Disadvantages :
- Limited Battery Capacity
- A bit heavy
- No LTE
- No NFC

2) Design :

Obviously it takes after the iPhone 5S design and obviously it still looks good. The aluminum body is beautiful to watch and it is better looking than handling because of the lack of rounded edges and the overall weight. It is a bit heavy : 158g (5.73 oz) against 145g (5.11 oz) for the Xiaomi Mi2S and 133g for the Xiaomi Mi2A (4.69 oz).

That being said, it is still easily manageable. The overall build is wonderfully done, small bezel, only 130 x 63.5 x 7.9 mm (5.12 x 2.5 x 0.31), it is smaller than the Mi2A sporting the same screen size, it is very thin and we can actually remove the back cover to replace the battery if needed. This is huge !

Like so many aluminum bodies, unfortunately it is prone to fingerprints.

3) Display

The display offers a decent experience with a HD 720 x 1280 resolution and a 326 ppi density. Colors are a bit off comparing to the Xiaomi Mi3.
Blacks are not as deep and contrast is not that accurate.
On the brightness level, it is good and will be more than enough to use it outdoors even with direct sunlight.

But at this price point, you can't really ask for anything better.

4) Benchmarks

Antutu listed the device above 16 000 but with Antutu X, the score drops to 14 000. A clear cheat of 14%. Same as the competition and the MT6589T at 1.5 GHz scores accordingly to previous devices with the same chip.
Antutu and Antutu X ran on the Basic 1GB RAM Jiayu G5.

5) Battery Life

Average overall. You could last a day depending on your usage. But at some point, even in my normal routine usage, I had to be careful not to over play with the new phone because I wasn't going to last the day.

For heavy users, you will have to charge it midday. Otherwise, be a bit careful and you will get through a full day.

6) Conclusion

The main selling point of the Jiayu G5 is its beautiful design. Specs are on par with what mid range Chinese smartphones can offer and usually at a cheaper price but this level of quality build and a metal body, you will hardly - if not at all - find that at this price point.

Given the facts that it is not the most powerful smartphone, the MT6589T has still gas in the tank to make a final run in 2014. GPS is average but Wi-Fi connectivity is off the charts, strong signal and grip to our office network.

But the main drawbacks are : first, it is more expensive that the competition like the Xiaomi Red Rice and second, it is only compatible with the 2100 MHz 3G band, so it won't cover every carriers in several countries. You really need to check that out before purchasing the Jiayu G5.

Anyway, it is available now for $289.99/£205.89/€217.49 at PhonAsia.com.
