Allwinner unveils its 2014-2015 roadmap
Allwinner announced yesterday its next roadmap during a press conference. The Chinese firm is still small but is aiming at competing against the Taiwanese giant, MediaTek in its own soil, China.
The new names of the next chips : WX, A6X, A7X, A8X and A9X.
For the most part of 2014, 2 chips will be launched :
- the A6X will be based on ARM Cortex A15 and A7 core (no information as how they are going to interact) up to 2 GHz
- the WX low energy SoC for wearable devices such as smartwatches
Starting the 4th quarter of 2014, we should see Allwinner very first Octo-Cores chips (a full year after MediaTek and 18 months after Samsung) using the big.LITTLE technology still combining the same Cortex A7 and A15.
In 2015, Allwinner is planning to release its 64 bits SoC based on ARM A53 and A57.
It is always better to see competition, especially in the semiconductors industry but we can't help but think the roadmap of Allwinner is somewhat one year late.
Anyway, let's see how this will be played out.
